How to Live in the Present Moment?
"Oh! God I can't deal with this anymore.
I am always just being bothered and sad about the past events or keep getting anxious and
worried about the future, what will happen and all of that stuff".
Have you ever faced this kind of notorious situation? Why does your mind keep moving from one thought to another, whether about the past, why it happened? Why me? Why I had done that? Or about the future, what will happen? What if that happens? Etc.
Every now and then many monks or spiritual people often refer to our mind as "monkey
mind". Like monkeys jumping from one branch to the another branch of a tree similarly our mind keeps grabbing one thought after another. This is almost the nature of the human mind but there is a problem with this mechanism, we can't be in the moment, we can't live in the present.
Whether we are always in guilt, shame or other negative feelings of the past or we are always
worrying and being anxious about the future.
We are not able to be in the calmness of the present. Apparently there are many theories and practices for this matter. But today in this article we will know some key ideas of many greats and some practical tips to practice
for being in the present moment.
How to Live in the Present Moment?
FIRSTLY, there is no past and future. It's all in your mind because in reality there is always the present moment but our distorted memory or imagination brings chaos to our well being in the present. Whenever we are in the past, that means some event had happened to us or we had done something which we can't forget.
So the only solution for this is to forgive, let it go and learn from it. If something had happened to you or someone had done something to you forgive that person
let go of that incident or even some material items for that matter if it brings old memories
Take your time, be at your own pace but release the old hurt and if you had done something wrong forgive yourself and most importantly learn from that situation or failure and grow and come out of it. Now when we are in our future that means we are exaggerating something, whether about
the fear of failures or about some happy, pleasant emotions. Both exaggerations are chaotic for us.
So to get rid of that we have to understand that it's an exaggeration and hardly 1% of it, is going to happen. First recognise this fact and plan accordingly. But always have that clarity in your mind. The future is unpredictable. We can plan our best and welcome the future and most importantly we can take the best
action today.

SECONDLY, to be at the present moment the most effective way is to be grateful.
Gratitude is the utmost happy feeling drug you can generate at any movement.
Be grateful for what you have right now at any micro or macro thing saying thanks with
THIRDLY, if your mind is constantly bogged down with many thoughts then share it with
somebody, talk to your close ones and declutter your mind to bring peace and calmness to the present moment.

FOURTHLY, having a daily meditation practice is extremely crucial for the practices of other three skills, to practise all those three skills more profoundly meditation, some deep breathing exercises are the ultimate way to be in the present moment. So in a nutshell, the four practical ways to be in the present moment are:
1) Forgive, let go of the past and learn from the mistakes and don't overestimate the future
either in a good or bad way. Plan accordingly but embrace the uncertainty and impermanence of life.
